7 Top Sales Training Programs For BDRs

7 Top Sales Training Programs For BDRs

The basics of sales never changes, and yet it is a constantly evolving profession. That’s why training is such an essential aspect of sales, whether it’s to fortify the fundamentals or to stay sharp with the latest trends.

The global pandemic has made in-person training difficult, at best. Fortunately, the world’s best BDR sales training programs are available virtually.

These programs are hosted by some of the industry’s most accomplished stalwarts. Why reinvent the wheel when all this great material is available for your team? Take the same investment you would have put into in-person training and let some of the sales greats share their secrets with your BDRs (at their own pace, no less).

The LevelJump team has collectively had the opportunity to personally take dozens of training programs, and so I’ve put together a list of the top 7 for BDRs. One of these is likely what your team needs.

1. John Barrows training

John is a sales trainer and consultant who has worked with some massive clients—Dropbox, LinkedIn, and Salesforce, just to name a few. John set up the training in response to the lack of formalized training in sales, which John calls the “most undereducated profession on the planet”.

“When sales is done right it’s one of the best professions on the planet,” he says, “and when done wrong, it’s one of the worst.” His aim is to give sales a good name by bucking the stereotype of the sleazy salesperson.

This program is great for new sales hires in B2B companies who are looking to get off to a blazing start. The individual program features 6 courses and 6 trainers. The team courses focus on filling the funnel and managing the full sales cycle—basically, doing what’s necessary to boost your revenue.

“The techniques the team learned during John’s training gave us a 100% month over month increase in activity, 35% increase in booked calls and a 59% increase in qualified leads pushed into the pipeline.”

“We announced 300% growth last year in terms of sales, and we consider John’s training one of the key components to our success.”

2. B2B Phone Skills Sales Training Program from

Michael Pedone is the founder and CEO of and a well-known figure in the world of online business. Designing his programs based on his own experience, he wants to offer sales professionals more effective, affordable sales training than sessions that are led by charismatic speakers but ultimately “leave attendees several hundred or thousand dollars poorer and selling just as little as before.”

“This is by far the best cold calling course I have ever taken. My reps love it and live by its teachings.”

The courses at deliver techniques and strategies that can be put into practice immediately. They teach trainees how to engage prospects, book more appointments, identify hot buttons and buying motivations, present with persuasion, handle objections, and close more new business.

The Phone Skills program features 8 courses each with their own exam that cover everything your BDRs need to know about being better salespeople on call. You’ll learn about handling gatekeepers, increasing voicemail call backs, a 5-step follow-up call strategy and much more.

“Michael’s program is a perfect solution for any sales organization that primarily sells over the phone.”

“This is by far the best cold calling course I have ever taken. My reps love it and live by its teachings.”

3. Gap Selling Training by Keenan

Keenan runs the “A Sales Guy” blog and podcast, and is the bestselling author of a book on his proprietary method, gap selling. We’ve written a little more extensively about Keenan’s technique in this blog before, but in short gap selling is about understanding the current and desired states of a prospect, and positioning your product or service as the bridge between these states.

Keenan is direct, encourages participation, and to top it off, he’s entertaining. Just listen to his podcast if you don’t believe me. This training will help you take an honest look at how you’ve been selling, and the application of his way of looking at selling can help you break out of bad habits that are keeping your sales down.

He’s helped everyone from junior BDRs to veterans with 20 or more years of experience who had “embarrassingly lax sales processes,” as one of his students put it.

“Gap Selling Works! Our team used Gap Selling and it completely transformed the way we went about selling – as well as our results! It increased sales, shortened sales cycles, and gave us a way to address those frustrating feature price questions.”

4. Sales programs from Sandler Training

The Sandler Selling System is a well-established methodology that has worked for more than 50 years. Their value proposition is simple: “Sell more, sell more easily.” If that sounds like a breath of fresh air to you, then maybe this training is right for your team.

The Sandler System wants to prevent “sales games” from even having to be played by helping the salesperson take the lead in the buyer/seller dance. Over five decades, Sandler and his team have refined their methods and training techniques to create one of the world’s most recognized sales programs. In fact, Sandler Training is a pioneer in incremental growth training.

The strategies you will learn are an amalgam of best practices from psychology, communication, research, and the experiences of thousands of successful sales leaders. They currently have 19 programs (and cover 14 tools), like 21st century prospecting, no pressure prospecting, and Ziglar strategies, to name a few.

Note:Sandler is usually associated with larger enterprises, they do service SMBs and as well, so if you’re thinking it’s the right methodology for you it might be worth giving them a ring.

"The first year I came on with Sandler I was doing about $600,000 in sales, two and a half years later I did $3.4 million."

"With my Sandler training I feel now that I could really sell anything."

5. Daniel Disney

Daniel claims that he is “the king of LinkedIn and social selling.” While I wasn’t at his coronation, I can say that he is certainly one of the world's leading LinkedIn and social selling experts. He’s generated millions of dollars in revenue from LinkedIn for his clients, which include Amazon, Salesforce, and Canon. He has a few books to his name and his content reaches millions of people every month, including his 700,000 LinkedIn followers.

His training focuses on tried and tested methods. All you need is a basic, free LinkedIn account and 15 minutes a day to generate more sales and revenue organically. His training will help you generate inbound leads, master prospecting, and build a great personal and company brand.

You might also want to join The Daily Sales, a LinkedIn group he runs that has 650,000 followers and is growing every day.

"After applying what I learned on Daniel's Masterclass my profile views jumped by over 700% and my first post had over 4,000 views! I would thoroughly recommend this Masterclass."

7. Coursera

“Oh, come on Spencer, I don’t need someone to tell me about Coursera…”

Well, sure, but it’s worth mentioning, especially because it’s human tendency to downplay anything that comes for free.

The truth is there are some great courses out there that come from solid sources, like the Salesforce Sales Development Representative Professional Certificate. In fact, some of the courses that we at LevelJump have attended in the past are now on Coursera.

You would have to pay for the certification (if there is any), but you can attend courses for free. So if you just want to give your team some good knowledge that they can apply in their daily work, then browse through the site and see what salesperson training your reps could benefit from.

No sales team needs every kind of sales program, but every sales team needs some kind of program every now and then.

The programs highlighted in this post cover all the basics and then some, but if you can’t find exactly what you need then don’t stop looking. Sales training is a very crowded industry and as sales professionals we are spoilt for choice.

Additionally, if you’re just looking for some self-coaching, then check out our post on top sales video channels. Some of the sales gurus in this list make an appearance there as well.
